My name is Rachel Wander and I am a senior. I have been tutoring since sophomore year. I became a tutor because I like to help other people understand things. It is really great to see a student leave the learning center knowing they have a better understanding than they came in with. I most enjoy tutoring math because it is my favorite subject. It is fun to share a trick or technique I've learned with other students and see how much it helps them. In addition to tutoring, I am a four year varsity swimmer and I also participate in Science Olympiad. I would recommend becoming a tutor because it is a really rewarding experience to know you are helping your peers. I would also say that you don't have to tutor every subject, so if you are only confident in some subjects, you shouldn't be scared to tutor. I would say to students coming in for a tutoring session to not be scared to just go up to a tutor to ask a question, even a small one. Odds are we can answer it quickly and it can save you a lot of time.
Here's what teachers are saying about Rachel:
Rachel is one of those rare tutors who can help other students with almost any subject. She has a great rapport with every student with whom she works. With her ability to break down concepts, even the most complicated issues begin to seem easy to the students. She is patient and understanding, and always checks to make sure the student understands before moving on.
