Hi! My name is Kayla and I am a Junior at HPHS. I’ve been tutoring in The Learning Center since the beginning of my sophomore year and haven’t stopped since! I became a tutor because I recognized the need for peer support, sometimes it's just easier to ask a kid than an adult. I love history, so naturally it’s my favorite subject to tutor. I think understanding how the world was before we got here and how our ancestors shaped it is truly fascinating. Don’t you ever wonder why Abraham Lincoln wrote the Gettysburg address and why so many people are familiar with it? Or why most theatres are shaped the way they are? (Hint: It’s because of Shakespeare!) I also love math, specifically geometry, so if you need geo help come find me! I’m involved in a bunch of after school activities including: Volleyball, Crew, playing my cello in Pit for the musical, and working on Sign Language Club which TLC’s own Mrs. Millman helped me found. (You might recognize my face from the announcements). On another note, becoming a tutor is incredibly rewarding and I’d recommend it to anybody, even if that means stepping outside of your comfort zone. You have the opportunity to meet so many new people and receive many benefits like the incredible TLC shirts and cake! If you’re approaching a tutor for the first time keep an open mind, it took just as much courage for them to say “yes” to helping you that it took for you to ask them for help. Sometimes tutors mess up but it’s how you both learn from the experience that’s most important. After all, you learn more from your failures than you successes! I love spending time in TLC and I hope to see some of you soon.
