Hi! I’m Grace Kern, I am a junior and this is my first year being an in-class tutor! I became a tutor after being recommended by a teacher -- I was so excited and honored to be recognized. I also began tutoring because I want to be a friendly face that students know they can count on for help. I love tutoring math because I know how it feels to not “get it”, and tutoring gives me a way to be by students’ sides during that feeling and help them truly grasp the concept and feel confident. Outside of school, I’m on the track team, I participate in Collage/Dance Show, and I’m a member of Rotary Interact. I would recommend being a tutor because it’s a really cool opportunity to learn about yourself through helping others. I know I’m stepping out of my comfort zone as well as making a positive impact on the school every day that I tutor, which is so rewarding. My advice for students for their first time meeting with a tutor is to take advantage of it! The more you work with a tutor, the more you get out of it as well as you help the tutor become better at what they do. You never need to feel nervous, because tutoring is judge-free and what we want most is to help you! :)
Here's what Mrs. Tobin has to say about Grace :
Grace has been such an asset to our Algebra 2 class this year. She shows up to each class with the most positive attitude and a willingness to jump right in and help a student with whatever they are working on. The students in our class trust her completely and she has helped them build confidence in math and in themselves. I frequently see students go to her for additional explanation on a lesson they've already learned in class because she has a talent for making the content relatable. She has been able to form a strong connection with each and every student in the room and they know she genuinely cares about their success. We all look forward to seeing her in the room and are very grateful for her help!
