My name is Ari Nathanson. I am a freshman here at Highland Park. This is my first year tutoring in the TLC. I decided to become a tutor for a few reasons. First, I empathize with those who struggle with not being able to comprehend a topic. The TLC is one of the best learning resources this school has to offer, and I wanted to encourage people to take advantage of it. Secondly, being a freshman, I viewed tutoring as a way to get to know students and staff at Highland Park. I tutor in Pre-Calc Honors and downward, as well as Honors Physics and Spanish 1. I most enjoy tutoring Geometry, as it was a topic that proved difficult for me, and I want to help people understand it as well as possible.
Outside of school, I participate in musical theatre and running. I also am part of the Math Team and write for the Shoreline. Being a tutor is an easy, fun, and rewarding way of giving back to the HPHS community. Tutoring also effectively improves your communication and interpersonal skills. If you are meeting with a tutor for the first time, my advice is not to be shy! The tutors are there to help, not to make you feel bad or to do the work for you. I am in the TLC during fourth and ninth period most days, so feel free to stop by if you need help with any of your schoolwork!
Here's what Teachers are saying :
From Mr. Helkowski: Ari has been such a wonderful addition to our tutor group. Watching him work with students and provide help in a relaxed comforting way has helped so many students find the support they need. Ari has the ability to work with so many students in so many areas. He models what we want our learning center to represent. The students coming to work in the learning center are lucky to have such a committed tutor to lean on.
