I am a junior and have been tutoring since the beginning of my sophomore year. Being a tutor in The Learning Center has really heightened my passion to help others in a school environment! I am always happy to tutor every subject, but especially English and math! I like to help other students with English because I love seeing the different prompts and perspectives going on in all the classes. I also really enjoy tutoring math because I love applying the lessons I learned in the past couple years and helping other students understand and feel confident with that material as well!!
I am also involved in other extracurricular activities such as Debate, DECA, EOT, Key Club, Ambassadors, Legal Aid Clinic, Girl Up, Shoreline and Soccer! I would highly recommend becoming a tutor to every student at our school because it is a really cool experience when you connect with and help other students and it keeps you in touch with material you have learned in the past! Being a tutor goes beyond The Learning Center, it is also in our classrooms. Whether it is being an in-class tutor or being in your classes and helping your classmates, the skills you learn from being a TLC tutor are extremely helpful.
While it might be kind of scary to approach a tutor for your first time in TLC ….. It really shouldn’t be! All of the tutors are there to help you and provide support for you….they are students at HPHS too! I remember when I approached a tutor in TLC for the first time to provide input on my English essay and I was scared at first, but then I realized how helpful this resource at the school is and how all the tutors are super welcoming and nice.
Feel free to find me anytime to ask me any questions!!
What teachers are saying about Ashley:
Ashley has a gift for making students feel supported and for building their confidence in math. I am very fortunate to have Ashley as a peer tutor in my class twice a week where she has established a bond with each and every one of my students. When she walks in, students are visibly excited to see her and she has a way of working with them that not only builds upon their skills but also gets them excited about math and feeling confident in their abilities. Ashley has an ability to recognize areas where students need more support that most trained teachers take years to develop. She goes above and beyond the duties of a peer tutor as she can recognize where our students need extra support and is able to come up with extra examples or additional ways of explaining concepts that students can latch onto. She has been a gift to our class and a very positive role model for my students to look up to.
