Hi! My name is Rachel Bringas and I am a junior. I started tutoring as an in-class tutor at the beginning of last year because I was recommended for it by one of my teachers. I enjoy being an in-class tutor because it gives me the opportunity to help more students understand a concept that they didn’t get, and it also gives me the opportunity to develop a relationship with the class because I tutor most days. I like tutoring math best because it is one of my favorite subjects, although I occasionally tutor other subjects in the TLC.
Outside of school, I am on the gymnastics team and diving team, and I am also part of the Educators of Tomorrow club. I would definitely recommend becoming a tutor, as you can share something that you are knowledgeable and passionate about with other students. It’s also really rewarding to watch a student walk out of class (or the TLC) and know that they understand a new concept. I think that if you’re meeting with a tutor or need help, it is important to have specific questions about the topic, and not just say you don’t understand any of it. It’s also important to not be nervous and speak up if you need help because you’ll feel a lot better if you know the material, rather than being confused. Lastly, don’t be scared to visit the TLC! All of the tutors would love to help you out with anything you don’t understand.
Here's what Teachers are saying :
From Mr. Leibfried: Rachel Bringas is a joy to have in class. The students see her as someone they can go to for help. Rachel is an active participant in our class as she even solves problems in front of the class and explains her work. Frequently she can be observed walking around guiding students vs giving answers which is the mark of a good teacher. She is positive, sincere, and accurate. We are thankful to have Rachel's help!!!
