My name is Jeremy Langsam, and I am a junior. I started tutoring the second semester of this year. I became a tutor for two reasons. First, I enjoy tutoring people as well as helping others work through and understand problems they were struggling with. Second, I always did work in the TLC and noticed the number of students in need of help so I thought it would be nice for me to volunteer to help them. I tutor in math, levels pre-calculus honors and below, Spanish, levels 4 honors and below, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, AP Economics, and English.
I am on the Highland Park debate team, Mock Trial team board, FOCUS leadership board, and I am also the president of Chicago Sports Daily, a sports news website. I also plan an event for the high school called PLTW night where the engineering programs offered at the school can be showcased for 8th graders coming to HPHS. I would definitely recommend being a tutor in the TLC. I am always so thankful when I go to the TLC and someone helps me understand something I am confused about and to reciprocate that help makes all the difference. The TLC is a great place to get help, help others, and get work done. It can be stressful to meet with a teacher but when it is your peers helping you, it is someone who understands and has been through the same confusion. For anyone coming to the TLC for the first time, don’t be scared to ask for help! Tutors are a great resource and are here to help!
Here's what teachers are saying about Jeremy’s work in The Learning Center:
Jeremy joined The Learning Center tutoring team after showing a genuine interest in helping students. While he did not officially begin as a tutor, he spent time in The Learning Center helping out students whenever he heard a student needing help and eventually decided to join us in an official capacity. He has shown a huge commitment to helping others and values being able to ease a peer’s fears about an upcoming test or material they are confused on. We are lucky to have Jeremy as a model for what tutors should be.
