I am a sophomore, and this is my first year tutoring in the Learning Center. I became a tutor because I wanted to help my peers, and make getting help with a certain subject easier. I enjoy tutoring math the most, because it’s something I consider myself good at, and it helps me practice skills as well. I would recommend becoming a tutor, because it’s not just a teaching experience, it’s also a learning experience and very rewarding. It’s very interesting to be tutoring a student and seeing a difficult subject click in their minds. My advice for students seeking help at the LC is to come prepared with the questions you want to ask, and don’t be afraid to ask for clarity. Everyone is always happy to help answer your questions at the Learning Center. Aside from tutoring, I also participate in Rotary Interact!
What teachers are saying about Shon:
Shon is a kind and patient tutor who is always willing to help. When tutoring, he lets his tutees guide the session, asking them to explain concepts to check for understanding. In addition to making himself available to answer questions, he regularly meets with a student to reinforce concepts from class. Shon knows his limitations and never tries to do more than he’s capable of (but he’s capable of a lot!).
