Hi! My name is Dara Drake and I am a senior. I’ve been an in-class tutor in the Algebra II classes since my sophomore year. I wanted to become a tutor because I love helping others and I want to major in education at college. I’m specifically interested in education policy and reform. I love tutoring the Algebra II classes because of the focus collaboration and the unique individual pacing. I truly believe a little extra support goes a long way. I am on the varsity lacrosse team, am a student liaison on the Human Relations Advisory Group at city hall, tutor kids at Indian Trail with Educators of Tomorrow, play in the Highland Park Wind Symphony, and occasionally anchor the announcements. I would 100% recommend becoming a tutor. It’s incredibly rewarding and energizing and I am so proud I get to support students in such a cool way. For anyone meeting with a tutor for the first time, don’t worry at all! We just want to see you succeed! I believe that our most powerful tool is a question, so you are already creating a more effective learning process by coming in, asking questions, and learning from them.
Here's what supervisors are saying:
“Dara is a huge help in the 1st period Algebra II class. Even though she is free this period and has the ability to sleep in each day, she comes in to help every morning to help the students in the class. She patiently helps the students whenever they are stuck or need a refresher on a topic. The students (and the teacher) are lucky to have her helping out in class each day.”
