Hi, my name is Josh Gerber and I am a sophomore at HPHS! This is only my first year tutoring, but I have been coming to The Learning Center since my freshman year. I became a tutor because I know what it is like to be a student who needs a tutor. Our teachers are great, but nothing is better than one on one support to clear some confusion. All of us could benefit from some assistance sometimes, and I am happy to help! I love tutoring math classes like Algebra because even though math is not necessarily the most helpful in our everyday lives, it teaches problem solving and thinking skills like no other course. I also tutor outside of school for Student Tutors, a student lead tutoring company with about 15 student employees. This helps me hone my tutoring skills for when I come into the TLC! To anyone considering tutoring, I highly recommend it. Not only do you have the opportunity to give back, you get to refine your skills in previous courses and even learn with the students. If you are a student meeting a tutor, remember to be patient. As a student you need to listen, take in the information, and most importantly ask questions when something does not make sense. You lead the session! Anyways, thank you for the award!
Here's what supervisors are saying:
"Josh is always willing to help a student in the learning center. He puts students at ease by introducing himself and asking how he can help them. Josh is organized in his explanations and goes beyond answering questions by offering additional insights on a topic. Students that get help from Josh definitely have a better understanding of the material." -Mrs. Maita
